Hehehe. Went through the same shit except with gourds for
martin nests. Never could attract any martins, but at least
I never saw any either. I had to put up a blue bird house
also. Nothing else would do. I read about those little
fuckers and tried to put it where they woud like it best,
but that isn't where my womenfolks wanted it. They didn't
care if the bluebirds liked where it was located or not,
they wanted it where they could see them enter and exit it.
Well I finally reached a compromise location and angle that
I faced the doorway of the nest. Instead of facing it with
its rear to the bird feeders and nearest trees [they were
pretty close and in different locations] I faced it at the
oblique with the women having a side view also from where
the back porch and kitchen window were. It worked, but the
first year they let a damn chickadee run them off and take
it over AFTER they had already built the nest. [Too
frigging close to that bushy tree and facing it at the
oblique-not good because it gives those nasty little
chickadees and sparrows a place to perch and attack from].
Placed another bluebird house on the opposite side of our
house and hit a homer the first year. Nearest perch to its
front is our TV antenna and a large tree, both about 50'
away. Women pissed, can't watch every move the bluebirds
make and missed seeing all but one group of young make their
first flight, they all soloed and got their license except
for one. It obvioiusly had a mental problem. Mama had
to
fly back and perch nearby and verbally abuse it and even
made fake dive-bombing passes trying to get it off the lower
fence rail. The cat was smarter than the baby bird.
Bluebirds 4 Cat 1 Sorry about that, didn't know Mama Ponder
had let Tigar out.
