Yes I HALO’d into Viegues either late may or early June of 1965. There were 16
of us on the jump and only 3 hit the Island. It was supposedly a clear night
and we leaped into 10,000 feet of clouds from 24,500 feet at 0100 hr. Our
instruction was to just fall fat, dumb and happy with our feet pointed at a
lighted triangle on the DZ.
That was the last fat, dumb and happy free fall I every made. From then on I
knew exactly where I was going. I don't like shark infested water for over an
hour. One of the people that hit the island did screw up an ankle. I was a SSG
at the time and got promoted SFC not long after that.
