A .50 cal lunch

While assigned to Bravo Company of the 7th I was caught down
range of the
50's when they decided to open up. One of the NCO's
was driving me and
another guy to areas to act as guards to keep cars from
driving through the
area. There was a road running through the
range. We had posted the first
guard and was driving to the other end of the range to post
the other guard.
We jumped out of the car and kissed the ground using the car
for cover while
reaching up and honking the horn to get somebody's
attention. The NCO said
he would lead us out. He took about two steps and
retreated to where we
were. That day I almost had a .50 cal for lunch.
