I'm proud that I had the opportunity and had what it took
to serve a tour with the finest soldiers in the world.

However, I think I did the right thing by not re-enlisting.
I am too much of a maverick to be compatible with the
military culture. If I hadn't been able to serve in SF, my
Army time would probably have been awful.

The way I operate is tell me what you want done then get the
hell out of my way and let me go do it. I'll figure out how
to do it and if I need help I'll find the right person and
ask for it. For the most part SF allowed me to function that
way. Actually was able to go from E1 to E6 in 37 months.

Even as early as "69 I could see the military beginning to
change in ways I knew I couldn't tolerate.

When AT&T was running Sandia Labs I had the freedom to
operate the way I liked. But now that DOE is micromanaging
through Lockheed Martin that freedom is gone. I can't wait
to move on to something else.

   No regrets
