As a 19 y.o. who didn't find college the right answer the
first time around, was
about to be drafted and enlisted in the classic "airborne
unassigned" as the
path to OCS, then got backed up in sequencing for OCS,
dropped that and went to
SF (medic), I have always wondered what my time would
have been like as an
occifer instead of a 91B. Never, ever have regreted
in anyway my 2 1/2 yrs w/ SF
and 11 months in VN. Just always wondered what would
have happened...
So it has been interesting to read those who went to
OCS saying they might have
wished to stay in SF on a team and not gotten to participate
in the fun & games
of life as an "O".
Like many other short stayers, I also wonder what my
life would have been like
had I made a career of SF or military. Don't regret
doing otherwise, and like
somebody earlier said, I pretty much figure I had exhausted
by invisible
protective shield in VN. Convinced that if I had stayed
I would not have come
home intact (to the extent that I have any sanity left
anyway) or not at all.
