During 1969,5/60 was at Rach Kien, which was certainly within a howitzer round of your
old AO. I never met LTC Davant Williams. The 9th Infantry Division Band got
to Rach Kien in JUL 69 (see attached photograph). They were having some kind
of celebration. Apparently they had captured a bunch of enemy weapons and
had them on display. The band was invited to perform (would you believe that
they actually had a bandstand -- it was the only one I had ever seen in IV
CTZ other than one we erected at Dong Tam). I was at Tan An a couple of
times, which I suspect IS your old AO. The base I visited was west of the
namesake village on the Song Vam Co Tay. I always wondered who got to ride
on those air boats. I saw one from a "Slick." Remove the war and I bet it
   could have almost been fun.

Your fellow SF veterans have been very responsive to my request for help,
Mike. I have to admit that 30 years later the education and training are
still very much apparent. You were and are "elite troops." I wish some of
the guys from the 9th ID were half as responsive.
