1967 Joined US Special Forces at 16 years of age. B-56, at Thu Duc, serving for 8 months. He was on leave when the Tet Offensive occured. At that time he lost contact with his unit which was deployed elsewhere. Joined the People's Defense Team for 5 months in 1968 before joining the 14th Police Squadron, a US Airforce team in July 1968 in Nha Trang, Served in this team until December 1971.

1972-1975 Served part-time in People's Defence Force until fall of Saigon.

1964 to 1972 Paratroop unit, 96499, CCC l5, 5th Special Forces Green Berets. They were based in Kn Tum and were dropped by parachute from helicopters into the jungle, behind enemy lines. They were to find out the enemy positions and report. He wore uniform. US style fatigues, the were Green Berets. He carried a gun, an M 16 rifle. With his unit once they came upon a convoy transporting weapons. They sent messages as to the position of the convoy and a bomb wasdropped on the column. Over l00 were killed, Interpreter was Mr hung. He is in USA now. He remembers a lst Lieutenant, called Ken, he thinks.

1972 worked as a security guard at the US Army Base at Qui Nhon for a year. His superior was Lieutenant Colonel Ta

Period and Nature of Service for the US

1967 Ly Duong Pau joined the US Special Forces in 1967. he served in the 14th Air Police Unit of the US Air Force at Nha Trang Military Airport, Central Vietnam, APO 96240, Commander Joseph Derry, Platoon Leader Vong Vay.

1968 He was transferred to Unit APO 96240 at the 8th Field hospital. US Military Hospital, Security work.

1969-1970 He served in the B-50 Special Detachment Force (the Loi Ho assault team behind enemy lines). In that unit, small teams of 6 men with an American consultant were taken by helicopter to the Vietnam-Kampuchea-Laos bordr and parachuted into the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Their mission was to gaher intelligence and search for MiAs, APO 96349, Team Leader Smith.

1971 Mr Ly was transferred to th 27th Transportation Battalion, APO 96226, of the US Army and was stationed in Phu Tai, Qui Nhon City, Central Vitnam, Capt John E. Rast.

1972 When the US forces pulled out of Vietnam, Mr Ly transferred to ARVN.
